Ramblin Roads

I miss Philly! It's been gone too long city. I came to Springfield, Massachusetts for some parties I had to attend and the NBA Finals about two weeks ago. Since moving to Philadelphia it's rare that I get to watch my home team's post season games with fellow fans. Usually it's just me and maybe a couple people in my living room. After a few days in the 413, we had to fly down to Arkansas for a family thing. Yea...

I must say that the state offered a lot more than expected. The lakes were beautiful, and tubing at ANY AGE is so much fun. Being detached from the world in the middle of the woods in a cabin does have its qualities.

Next up is New York from Thursday to Saturday. Definetly going to roam around and check out some exhibits.

Keith Haring at the Skarstedt Gallery
Who's Afraid of Jasper Johns at the Shafrazi Gallery
Jason Daquino's Delicate Excecution at Fuse Gallery
Jeremy Fish and Josh Keyes at the Joshua Liner Gallery
The MoMa has some great things too, I still haven't seen the Superhero's Fashion and Fantasy yet or the Jeff Koons exhibit on the roof.

This should keep me busy while Gill is at work right? I sure as hell can't shop because I have been traveling around so much the past couple of months, the funds are running low. I need a new hustle!

I'm returing to Philadelphia Saturday night with my homegirl, Gill, for the Live Forever party at the Barbary. I've never been to that one because I am always out of town! Honestly, I do not plan on leaving the 215 area for at least a month. I miss my place.

THE SEMI-ANNUAL PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET – SUMMER EDITION !

It's that time again for the semi-annual (twice a year) PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET. Our most popular reoccurring event/show/whatever (by far). All proceeds raised will goto the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies to ensure that all ages shows continue to remain a reality at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia - mainly the remaining payment for our new liability insurance policy. Do not let the name lead you to believe that it's just punk records, clothes etc. - it's a full on flea market with everything from furniture, to laptops / computers , to stereo equipment, to handmade apparel, to vegan treats, information from various non-profit groups, book stores, artists selling their work, bicycles & skateboards and whatever else we can fit onto the ballroom floor at The Starlight Ballroom.

Ok, so that's the rundown. Check out my homegirl Myles' table! She is a super talented artist currently over at Space 1026. She's got some dope tees stocked. From infant to adult, boys and girls, she's got you. For more of her work and updates on projects her blog is over at,www.momtried.blogspot.com I just saw Myles at a Stussy party at the Ubiq store and she told me that next up this summer is a mural on the first floor of the Walnut street location. Sure to be fire. That store is beautiful.

Careful kids there is a new sheriff in town willing to bite the shit out of anyone.

Sir Vicious the Lady Killer. He does this really cool spin move, believe me, ladies love cool V. Trust. Best comment of the week comes from AnG Smith, who looked at me dead serious across the table at the Tritone while we were looking out the window and said, "Jenessa, does this mean that people are going to be wearing white cut off jeans and ugly sandals?" The honesty in her face was the most endearing.

Congratulations boys!
They brought it last night! Sealed the title with a 131-92 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Even though there was a substantial lead throughout most of the game, it was still exciting as all hell. The plays were unbelievable. Intensity never slowed and the shots were on point. We watched it at Samuels Sports Bar in Springfield, Ma. The crowd was definetly in the building.

Showtime!

So a month or so back my 'Current Obsession' was the Black Lips. A band from Atlanta, Georgia. Well, this month, they are still at the top of my list, that and cell phone Scrabble. OI! Ever since watching them perform live front row at Coachella, yea, I've become addicted to antics. Addicted to the Black Lips. Go see them. Download music. All that.

Information

Are you a Half Star or a Full Star?

From the outside looking in, it may seem that the job of the fashion model is a mindless job, I mean, sit there and look pretty right? Well, then can you explain the reason why so many beautiful girls are sidelined? Check this Gisele Bundchen interview. She speaks about drawing inspiration, style, and her ideas. 'The street brings a lot of inspiration because I think a lot of different people, I think people watching, I think books bring inspiration, I think movies bring inspiration, music brings inspiration, I think everything,"- Gisele discussing inspiration, um obviously.

When your being paid to express yourself without using words the craft can reveal the true stunners. For instance, let's look at current stars like, Jessica Stam, Coco Rocha, Iekliene Strange, and Agyness Deyn. All smart, passionate, and you can tell they love what they do because they are dedicated and distinct. They have shaped campaigns for Dior, Chanel, Burberry, and Giorgio Armani, among others.

It ain't easy bein breezy baby.

This is for my homegirl, model, and CONSTANT sports rival, Meg, she loves Gisele. The model just purchased a G550 for 50 million, the longest range business plane in the world. Top models get paid.

Excuse Me Miss

Two loves collide. French fashion designer, John Paul Gaultier, and British model, Agyness Deyn. A new fragrance and the advertisement to supply. Click!

"It's my type of woman—at the same time fragile and strong, like a tomboy that is a little androgynous in attitude so, you know, she can cut her hair if she wants.”- John Paul Gaultier describing the muse

Do Your Thing Girl

DO YOUR THING.

Speculation on the career choices of cult queen, M.I.A., have been hittin the wire for a minute now. If the girl wants to take a break, let her take a break! We need some new songs to obsess over anyway! Her international tour schedule has been crazy, I read an interview over a year ago where she talked about her life and the affect non-stop regime of touring. Damn, I have seen her three times in the past year alone touring Kala, in different cities at that! It's understandable, at least she isnt pumping drugs into her system everyday and walking around callng herself a legend, Amy Winehouse...But, damn that girl can sing, I crave her music. Even though I do like to boast the collection of terrible Amy pics I have. Back to the subject! Another report speculates and tries to decypher the claims from that girl they call, Maya. May the Lord continue to bless her with words and wisdom, and us with prolific gestures. AMEN!

Gimmie More

Photos from the San Francisco trip

My host, Huwayda. Gorgeous. Love her.

Knob Creek, I'm on a Mission.

Sarah, made her dress, bag, and is a photographer

This bag is fucking phenomenal. After three seperate occasions meeting up with this girl, I finally had to ask if I could snap a picture of this dino bag. I loved it. She painted the claws red! it's got a sequin strap, AND the jaws of death! That is the only one in existence which I was bummed to hear. The bag is TIGHT. I suggested a fanny pack type deal. I personally don't love fannies, but don't you think something like this with a strap around your waist would be hot?

Apparently the top guy is a Quetzalcoatlus and the bottom one with the teeth is a Anhanguera. I need these in my life.

SF

My homegirl took to me see this band,Lilofee, at 111 Minna in San Francisco. Check em. I like the 'We Belong Apart' track. She works with the singer Kimi, who has an amazing voice. The set was met with some technical problems but Kimi kept it going with an impromptu acapella version of Ace of Base's 'I Saw The Sign.' It was awesome.

Ready For The Floor

Styles Upon Styles

Check this profile of Retna. You can catch a glimpse of his work at Agent on
South street in Philly. He painted there, at the Exit Skateshop, and over at the Khyber a few months back with David Choe and Saber. Cool dudes. I almost got married to a kid they were with so he could stay in the country, well i wasn't really going to do it, but David Choe did draw a ring on my finger. A sense of humor is key in this world, I tell ya.

A COUPLE OF BLASTS
This one is tonight, Wednesday June 4th

Head over to the G Lounge to celebrate the Webstore launch of this hot boutique in Center City. This is the ONLY spot I go to in Philly for L.A.M.B clothing. A couple of my girls work over there so I know this event is gonna be right. Schooly D will be spinnin and a performance by Aaries will supplement the Echo chic fashion show showcasing Fall 08 trends. Starts at nine. Get it in.

FRIDAY

Speaking of supplements, this just in! Tonight at the Fillmore on South street. Sorry to report but Santogold will not be at the picnic.

If you've been to any of these parties this needs no explanation. Except for the small fact that this one is FREE!!! If your on the list. So get your ass on it, head over to the Barbary to get crazy sweaty, shake your ass, and cap off the night. Definitely get this one in.

Howeva. I cannot complain, Napa valley is stunning and refreshingly serene. I am going to try and get over one of my fears by sitting in a hot air balloon. I can jump out of a plane, but petrified of just chillen up there. I think I am going to look into jumping as soon as I tie up this post.

Happy June

Alright, so I've been in California since May 30Th and I decided to leave my computer at home in Philly. This trip is taking me from San Francisco, to a suburb to see my cousin graduate, up to Napa Valley to drink wine and chill at a resort, back to SF to chill for one more night with my homegirl who wants to me go to a Roots listening party with her, which in a sense takes me back to Philly prematurely. So, I've been taking a lot of notes, going to new places, and meeting some gorgeous people. Wink, wink. Upon returning to Philadelphia, next Monday, Rife will be rejuvenated with new posts and pictures. My girl, Ang, is fittin to start writing again, a new fashion contributor, Erin B, will also be firing out hotness. We are lookin forward to a hot summer with lots of traveling, can't sit still! I will officially be working at Omoi and planning some really interesting events with Liz. Expect some unconventional in store events, that's all I am saying for now. Keep checking for updates, and most importantly, HAVE FUN! Check you on the flip.

XO
J

By the way, I just realized that Rife has been up now for over a year. Thanks to everyone who reads, comments, and has linked us up to their blogs, it keeps us goin.
