WRITE AWAY!

Female seeking clever, witty, and conceptual writers. You dont have to be eco- friendly or politically correct and the internet works just fine. I'm not going to lie, my Thursday nights have become a complete bust! I have resorted to Clash Of The Choirs with the likes of Michael Bolton (I didnt know you could make a reality show about that shit) NBC, CBS, hell FOX writers where have you gone? I know its not you, is it me?! I like ginger in my tea and by that I mean, Conan, my love, where are you with your illustrious bouncey hair and pale irish skin??? As a result of this strike people like me are writing!

The Menswear Mix

Honestly, I don't think anything gets me more excited then fine men, er, menswear. Tailoring, color, and a clear direction are at the heart of the creation of a collection. Luckily for us, Brand Pimps and Media Whores are presenting the second installment of the Capsule Show in New York in January. This is an industry tradeshow that every budding company as well as established lifestyle brand will have thier eye on. BPMD has taken the top premium independent menswear designers and will be setting up shop at the Angel Orensanz Foundation Center. The neo-gothic space will serve as the landscape for the most progressive movers in the menswear market. The unique thing about this show is that up and coming designers will be in the building alongside some of the best in the world. Not only is this a fresh approach but it is being brought to you by a group of people that are focused on bringing streetwear to the next level. By the way, the list of designers are the damn truth when it comes to influential design. The last show was great and we are looking forward to the next phase. Brace yourself. There are some newcomers to the room this time around and we're proud to see that Bijules NYC will be in the building.

Info:
January 22-23, thats a Tuesday and a Wednesday from 10-7pm.
Angel Orensanz Ctr. located at 172 Norfolk Street in the Lower East Side
Check out the rest of the roster HERE.

Make sure to check out the BPMD blog WEARETHEMARKET.COM for upcoming information.

Deliver Us From Evil

BEAUTY IS ALL ABOUT BEING MULTI-DIMENSIONAL. I'VE MET SO MANY PRETTY FACES BUT IT'S THE ONES WHO ARE BOLD AND EMBRACE THE UNEXPECTED THAT TRULY STAND OUT.
—Linda Cantello
Creative Director, YSL Beauté

V Magazine has a great Beauty section on their website and the Summer Beauty Portfolio is still up. You should check it out before they take it down. The portfolio asks industries top creative directors, makeup artists, and stylists to give thier interpretion of beauty. Insights come from the directors at YSL Beaute, Rimmel, M.A.C, Shisedo, Lancome, among others. Some of the makeup artists that participated are Gucci Westman, Tom Pecheux, and Lucia Pieroni. The photography is stunning as is the styling which comes from industry greats like Guido from Redken and Orlando Pita from L'Oreal Paris.

Fond Fable Fiction

It has just been announced that Tim Burton will produce and direct an adaptation of the Disney classic, Alice in Wonderland. The film is slated to start filming in early 2008 and will combine live action and animation to create a 3D motion picture. Burton is promising to stay true to the Lewis Carrol story. "The stories are like drugs for children, you know?" Burton said. "It's like, 'Whoa, man.' The imagery, they've never quite nailed making it compelling as a full story. So I think it's an interesting challenge to direct." Alice in Wonderland is a fantasical journey that takes the viewer on adventures through a dream. We are really excited to see what Burton turns out.

File This Under...

WTF??
Karl Lagerfeld citing Amy Winehouse as his inspiration for his latest collection. Really? The toothless junkie with the obnoxious beehive? Even Victoria Beckham has cited Winehouse as an icon as of late. How can you give icon status to someone who has been around for less than a year or so? Not too chic, however, the adorned beehives that went down the runway were exquisite. I just don't see them having much life after the catwalk. All in all the Pre-Fall 08 collection fused together beautiful fabrics, giant jewels, layers of texture, and signature English flare. Chanel did turn out some great looks and here are a couple of highlights. Check out more of the collection and a review from Sara Mower at Style.com

Favorite Blonde

GWEN STEFANI - EARLY WINTER (Official Video)

Not my favorite song, but stunning nonetheless. Mature dress choices. Clear couture choices, only for the best. The green flower print looks like a Galliano but I can't say 100%. Enjoy, as always.
Oh and shouts to the painted trains. You get the best looks at graff when riding the train.

Trend. Glitz. Sweet Seduction.

So colored leggings or tights are the new black according to Laura Luv. I couldn't agree more. Fingerless gloves are always key, and a million dollar smile always kills it.

argyle socks! layer layer. and knee high is key.

calle 13 ft orishas - pal norte-El Residente

Over the Thanksgiving holiday its always interesting to get together with your family and bring each other up to date on "whats up." My dad, being a man of the times that he is, asked me if i knew about Calle 13, a Boriqua rapper. Apparently homeboy stole the show with a dope performance at this years Latin Grammy's. He won 3 awards this year for his sophomore effort, and 2 for his debut, Calle is a political MC that literally represents the street that he came from. Similiar to M.I.A. One thing you must understand about Puerto Ricans is that we are completely tacky, we aint gonna deny that shit and it may be ridiculous but hey...
collabs with nelly furtado. yo she loves the island. does mad videos over there.k
denied puffy. homie tried to sign him. didnt work.

Gimme the Loot

With all the Black Friday sales would it be bad if we just went shopping for ourselves? That sounds so selfish, but the sales at some of our favorite shops are ridiculous. Check em out if you can. Don't miss Topstitch event on Saturday. They are having a trunk show with some of the designers in the house. Good music, drinks, and the girls will be dressed as elves wrapping gifts. Pick up those Babooshka jumpers and dresses. Hot fabric combinations and flattering colorways at affordable prices. Perfect for party dress ideas and one of a kind gifts. Babooshka is created and designed in house so your guaranteed custom alterations. And if you think you can make it for cheaper then DO IT! damn, don't knock the hussle.

There is a delicious interview with Lanie Alabanza, the designer of cult favorite, Hellz Bellz in Format Magazine. She offers up some good insight on the industry and shows mad love to her man. Love design duos!

Here is a little taste from the chat, check out the rest of it riight here

Format: To what do you attribute the lack of female designers in streetwear?
Lanie: It may not seem like it but female designers definitely have a presence in streetwear, that’s for sure. Just because they may not be in the forefront with their own line, doesn’t mean they aren’t there. As far as female brands in streetwear, the niche is still pretty small but it’s good to see that it’s progressing. I’ve been seeing a lot more women’s brands popping up as of lately, but whether or not they are actually designed by a female or have some guy behind the computer designing for them, that I don’t know. It would be nice to think that a female is behind them all and not just a face for a brand.

OMOI in between 16th and 17th on Pine stocks Hellz Bellz, more than just one or two hoodies, Deep Sleep. There is more to come for Holiday, Liz already has the order in! Stop in and check it out. OMOI is on our links, she's got a well developed site up with most of the merchandise available to purchase.
