Thoughts and Ideas--Heavy
A Sit Down with Liz
There's a treat in Philadelphia. You can find it on 16th and Pine.
In the quest to find a boutique that is a perfect balance between streetwear and femininity we found Omoi. The location of the store and the window display happen to be distinctive aspects of the store. Instead of showcasing feature merchandise like the Hysteric Glamour line or Upper Playground, Liz decided to evoke curiosity by placing bright checkered umbrellas and the lifestyle key items. Drawing on her experience of living in Japan she brings you cheeky jewels, fire tees and gorgeous handmade kimono tops from Philly based Keiko Ozaki, if your daring enough. You can even cop a pair of Jeremy Fish pillows or a Sam Flores ashtray, you can place that adjacent to the the new copy of Swindle.

When asked about inspiration she simply stated that she "marches to the beat of her own drum machine." If anything she likes to check out what Yoppi is doin with it. Liz sees Philadelphia as "inspired, unique, and comfortable" Location sets her apart from other stores in the city. But its really the merchandise that makes Omoi a jewel among the brownstones. Of course we had to ask her about music. She sweetly replied that she is "currently in a rock-a-billy phase." Immediately we told her that the Kings of Leon would be in town in a few days and shes already seen em, twice. Shopping around you will hear a mad decent mix of everything.

Look out for Hellz Bellz in the fall. Punk never died.

the creative & the conscious

Strickly For The SuperFemale.

London raised Karen Jane founded Not Bad For A Girl(NBFG) in 2006. The young designer is holding it down in a men driven industry. Through her dedication & her work she has established a company that is not only respected, but a prominent player in streetwear. There are few females who are taken seriously in the industry, but NBFG retains femininty while projecting an edge. Karen's boldness & love for the daily grind can be attributed to her upbringing," I was an eighties child growing up in a town in the middle of nowhere. I hung around with my older brother mostly tagging-along with him and his mates, doing stuff they did. I'd take my hands off the handle-bars going downhill even though I'd wipe-out. I'd climb trees even though I'd scrape my knees. I would risk a dead arm trying to sneak off with the latest Electro album on tape..". Her "love over game plan" comes out in her T-shirts. Not only is Karen making a name for herself in a men dominated industry, but she's giving back to a community as well. 5% of every purchase made through this site is donated to Cancer Research UK in memory of my brave Mum, Patricia Ann. NBFG is the reality & Karen Jane is a key playa.

End-to-End Project

Adidas teamed up with Foolocker & then collaborated with 7 graffiti artists to create 1 collection in 3 days. The collection has a few nice pieces, especially the Stan Smiths by SIloette. I'm all about the satin linning in this shoe. The Pro Lawn jawns by Can2 & Atom are something to talk about, also. I'm not the biggest Adidas fan, but I appreciate this project to no end.

Go Getta.

Prominent female graffiti artist Siloette definitely has something to say & even more to show. She manages to keep girly by using pastel colors & mystical characters. Damn it sure is good to be a girl.

Ice, Ice, Baby

Dwelling Pop Culture Addict

Now Here's A Little Story I Gots To Tell:

Beastie Boys instrumental album, "The Mix-Up" drops June 26th. "The Mix-Up" deviates from rhymin' & stealin'. The album contains no samples or vocals, & instead of composing songs with computers the boys actually took some intiative & did all the tracks themselves. Well almost. Are the Beasties progressing like they are aging? Maybe. According to an interview on Pitchfork, Mike D said, " We're trying to really cross over into the whole Jamband, Bonnaroo, Givernment--What's it, Gov't Mule? That whole genere." Glad to see Mike D has retained his sense of humor with his old age. What time is it?? Time to get heady?? Let's hope not. What ever happened to staelin' honeys & bikes?

Don’t Sleep. Get Your Due.

Also. my man Aesop Rock & El-P will be droppin' lobotomy beats. This show is going to take place during the day and is modeled after the Vans Warped Tour. Don't be a sucka. Grab some tickets.

Psychadelic Warrior.

Peter Zimmerman x Mekanism.

These decks definitely pop to say the least. Bright & Lucid. I'm into it.

“Custom skateboard masters Mekanism have added German artist Peter Zimmerman to their ongoing procession of artist collaborations, and this latest series of limited edition decks are about as unique as humanly possible. Zimmerman created his striking boards by digitally deconstructing paintings from his own archives and modifying parts that he liked, then re-painting the image onto the boards using an epoxy resin, a fluid medium which transforms itself during the application process.”

Pimpin' Ain't Easy.
