Paradiso

The Pirelli tire company releases a coveted calendar every year for an exclusive list of clients and VIPS. The calendar started in 1963 and has an illustrious history of using top models and photographers to create some of the worlds most desirable images. Notable photographers include Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, and Peter Lindbergh. The list of some of the iconic women include Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, and Iman among many others. The images themselves have generated enough publicity within their exclusive circles throughout the years to make this a cult item people need to have their hands on. A 40 year retrospective book was released to commemorate the images that show flirtations with sensual fantasy and beauty executed through the lenses of the some of the worlds most dynamic photographers. Images are from 1963-2004. I know quite a few people with birthdays in April and May, HMMM...I'm thinkin' this is a good gift...Enjoy. Available here

SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY

This is a really good video from VIMBY spotlighting some of Philadelphia's up and coming talent. It's becoming more evident in marketing that encompassing diversity within your brand is crucial to success. The exchanges between fashion, music, art, sports, and culture are triggering exciting talent with a common philosophy to come together creatively. It's occurring at all levels of the industry. The Takashi Murakami retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum recently is a prime example. That night saw an intense performance from Kanye West, an artist with not only an inimitable musical gift, but you have to give it to him, the boy has style. Past Murakami collaborator and top American fashion designer, Marc Jacobs was there to show support. In front of the museum, stands of fake Louis Vuitton bags proved to be a teaser to the Louis Vuitton shop that was set up inside. Ah, art, commerce, and globalization, the world is yours friends.

Back Home

So, I arrived in Philly last night at around 1 a.m from New York. Finally! It was a busy week traveling. I joined my girl Gill at the Girl on Girl party at Sway the night before in Manhattan. It was fun. I mean, we didn't get there til 2 a.m, but we made the best of it. Makers Mark on the rocks for me. Oi, Oi, Tone took our picture, a couple times, ugh. I HATE GETTING MY PICTURE TAKEN! Everytime. DAMN! But back to Philly, my home for the moment, that I love so much. I hit the streets hard today. I obviously stopped at Omoi to show Lizzy Liz Liz my new haircut. Yes, I chopped it. Severely. I stopped at Grasshopper, ladies, you really need to go in there for some AMAZING dresses and tops. As well as vintage deadstock Christian Dior shades. They do carry menswear, but I suggest stopping at Omoi first. Just sayin. Grasshopper is right next to American Mortals. Ask for Brooke. She's great. It is also a couple doors down from Lolli Lolli, a fabulous children's boutique. I also stopped in the Matthew Izzo store on Walnut. I was fuckin STOKED to see that they carry Surface to Air from Paris. Thank you!!! Forward fashions! I think I just get happy when people 'get it.' Also, Head Area, the salon in the back, my girl Ruth works there. Ask for her. Does a perfect blow out. I did stop in Urban. Please, take it from me, don't waste your time. Unless you are a super hippie and don't mind paying for overpriced Shwag. They do have good books though. Liz has better ones...

Enough retail! Now time for the bars. I HAD to stop at Bob and Barbs to see Butchie. He opens the bar and ALWAYS has the best shit on the jukebox. Jazz, Soul, R&B, etc. Don't fuck with him. He also provided the best comment of the week:

"I don't know who your baby's father is, but y'all had some good rhythm!"- Butchie after looking at a recent picture of Lola. God Bless him

P.S Butchie swears he is Lola's daddy... hahaha! I am a proud mami.

Finally, we ended the night with rockabilly bands at the Tritone. I fell in love with Rockabilly tonight...

Feet First

I wore these on the day of the Bridge Art Fair in New York last Thursday. I had been traveling the entire week and I couldn't fit these in my luggage so I had to wear them. Not that I'm complaining! Love 'em. In fact, my most comfortable pair of shoes. However, they have taken on a life of thier own. Everytime I have them on in New York people stop me to take pictures of them. Most notably at the DQM store. Even here in Philly, BadLuxury.Blogspot.com spotted me at the Jinxed Heart show. Back to the point, this dapper lookin fellow snapped my boots at the fair and told me the blog he wrote for, Increase-Decrease.com. Just today I finally checked it and his blog is pretty dope. Shout to Reynolds.

Happy Family

Reee-CAP

Last night in New York was crazy. Started out with Makers Mark Manhattans at this Korean restaurant around the corner from the Showroom Gallery. Food was amazing and the bartender was a trip. By the end of it, we were singing whatever Kanye West song was on and and I busted out with Outkast's International Players Anthem, (the girls part). After two Manhattans I can make friends with the wall, by the way. Ok, so it was off to the gallery. OI OI was that place HOT. Crammed with people. So much so, that I bumped right into Claw Money and didn't realize it til I looked at the chick who stepped on my shoe. Fafi looked darling, Cope, the True Legend was hangin tough. The house was packed. Here are some flicks from the show.

This guy below, Mel, is amazing. I ran into him at the Come Correct show where he asked to take my picture. Then we went to Gallery Bar for DVS shoe party where we met again and took more pictures. After THAT I saw him at the Red Bull Space where Chuck Inglish, one half of The Cool Kids was Dj'ing. More pictures followed, and so did more drinks, all free. Score! We ended up havin a chat because our meetings were sheer coincidence. Some people you are meant to meet, I guess. He takes photos for the Village Slum. Check it out.

Here's one of his shots from last nights events.

I-22 Bitches

So Wednesdays at Bob and Barbara's are Bingo Bob's chance to humiliate any competitive spirit facing the fate of the randomness of the Bingo Ball shaker...welcome to my world. After months and months of playing I finally won last week. Go figure, I won a bunch of raunchy porn that doesn't mildly turn me on. However, I did win a strawberry patched denim cell phone case that I 'forgot' at the bar...I was on a roll last week. Yet, the bonehead I was with called 'BINGO' when he didn't have it and had to buy Bob a shot. What a retard. Sorry love, but it's true. We take bar games rules serious...Anyway another round is underway tomorrow nite. Our girl Ang is working at the Tritone, with Papaya bartending across the street. He makes some stiff dranks, and I Loves it. Yes, loves it. Oh and if your reading this today and weren't at BNB's tonight, you missed Hip Hop tuesdays with DJ LEXX. God Damn. Everything from the Jackson's to Wu Tang. Friends rhymin' on the front stoop, smokin butts, gettin down to Slick Rick, B.I.G, (my personal fucking favorite), and LEXX must love me. Cuz he weaves in that mix tape shit with one of my main mangs, METHOD MAN. I know one of his babies ma's. You know this one biddy bop from my home spot. OOPS??? did i say that out loud? Mr. Meth, yes you.

Here's Bob. Get your ass down to BINGO for fun and food. Fun is Bob and food is of course from my main man, Chef Lucky. If your LUCKY maybe you can score his famous Mac and Cheese recipe. I already have that shit, and I'm keepin it under wraps.

Film Fest

A Kaleidoscope of Fashion!

This month's issue of V Magazine is fiiire! Gwen is featured on the cover with an interview and photography through the lenses of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot. In the interview she discusses the Sweet Escape world tour she just finished, life with Gavin and bebe, and the new No doubt record! The Spring Fashion editorials are ridiculous. Photographers include Nick Knight, Mario Testino, Sebastian Faena, Mario Sorrenti, Alasdair McLellan, and KT Auleta. Love the Bag Ladies spread by KT, and The Girl Next Door spread with Gisele by Alasdair. You won't be able to flip through it at the store, unfortunately, it's wrapped in plastic. Nonetheless, you will want to buy it anyway. Um, yea, and i really want the Uniqlo sweatshirt Gisele is wearing. It's got a diamond in the sash. The 'Miss Thing' one. Swank shwag, magazines bring the Life to otherwise idle items.

Confessions

The girls at Worship Worthy interviewed Brooke Nipar, the Photo Editor for Missbehave Magazine. Get some scoop on what it's like to shoot M.I.A and Amy Winehouse. She also cites Rojas as one of her favorite fashion lines. Once again, i have to plug Omoi, because not only is it the single store in Philadelphia, but one of the few on the entire East Coast to carry the line. Thanks to yours truly. Wink Wink. Not only is Brooke a talented photographer, she's got looks too.

GET AWESOME

Also. How amazing is Liz in this Rojas colorblock windbreaker?!

Go buy one! or a Rojas dress, casual yet stylish stuff that can be worn from day to night. What's betta than that?
