New Print From Audrey Kawasaki: 'My Dishonest Heart'

Los Angeles based artist, Audrey Kawasaki, is known for her technically precise depictions of adolescent girls with enigmatic glares painted on wood panels. Her style is captivating because of the fine details and distinct due to her consistency in execution. Occasionally, I will check up on her blog, okonomide, because I really want a signed print and they sell out really fast! This time paid off because today she posted that one of my favorite paintings, 'My Dishonest Heart,' will be available for online purchase Saturday, May 9th at 12 p.m Pacific Time.

In other Audrey Kawasaki news, she has a solo show, Watching Shadow, in Japan this week at, Space Yui, in Tokyo.

Opening night is May 7th and runs until May 16th. Watching Shadow will feature 10 paintings and drawings. The 'Nagisa' cut out is stunning.

Her next solo show will be at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in NYC in December.

Take A Glimpse Into Pre Fall

Take a look at some Pre Fall highlights at V Magazine online. The feature includes standouts from Calvin Klein, YSL, Givenchy, Zac Posen, Dolce and Gabbana, Lanvin, and Proenza Schouler, pictured above. I love the use of color and chunky accessories in this shot, you had me at lace up booties. Check the black dress with the sequin draped shoulder in the Givenchy highlight. Do the addition, factor in the subtractions, multiply the funds, and divide accordingly.

Vintage Black and Whites

While searching for style inspiration photos for my sister's upcoming show, I came across this incredible blog, Child of the Moon. It offers loads of style photos and the women that inspired thier decade. If I could go back to any era, hands down it would be the late sixties early seventies with some super short mod haircut and lashes for days. Here I have famed muse, Edie Sedgwick, fashion icons Diana Vreeland with Veruschka, Catherine James, Anna Wholin, some mod fashions, women in topless bathing suits, and Monica Vitti smoking. Let's just take a moment to remember Dorothy Dandrige. She played in over 20 films and including Carmen Jones, Lady from Louisiana, Tarzan's Peril. Carmen Jones gross 60k it's first week in 1954. She died at 42 from OD'ing on pills, but will always be remembered for her breakthrough rolls and contributions to the Black Community.

Omoi is competing in a contest for Nooka watches! The stores that were involved each submitted a vinyl toy and Omoi is representing Philadelphia with their Garbage Pail Kids style Sumo wrestler! Ya see, the toy was designed and painted by artist Mark Pingitore, who is a concept artist at Topps, Inc. (hence the GPK connection). The detail is amazing, from the bun in his hair to the movement on his face and body.

Heart to Heart Charity Fashion Event

For years, the Children' s Hospital of Philadelphia has been saving the lives of ailing, vulnerable children in need of specialized care. The Cardiac Center at CHOP is a world leader in reconstructive heart surgery, heart catheterization, specialized anesthesia and nursing for children and young adults with heart disease. Performing more specialized interventions- both surgical and noninvasive - than nearly any other hospital in the world and serving more than 24, 000 outpatient s each year, their success rate is among the best in the U.S. The significance of this cannot be under estimated, as children are not only an important segment of our population but also are, quite literally, our future. In light of this and the fact that CHOP needs help from outside funding, Topstitch Boutique and Fuel Gallery will host a truly unique citywide charity event in hopes to raise money for the cardiac care unit of the Children' s Hospital of Philadelphia.
