Trade Secret

Just a small note I've been meaning to get to... In the mega September issue of Vogue there is a great piece on the amazing Pat McGrath. Pat is the Global Creative Director for Max Factor Make up, a contributor to Allure Magazine, and one of if not the best makeup artist living. Most notably, Pat is the go to person for John Galliano who has collaborated with her to create some of the decades most creative looks. Definitely try to pick up an issue, even though the article is on page 792, hey the well deserved piece is there. To the lady of the hour!

From the Window to the Wall

Helen Amy Murray is a 26 year old textile designer based out of London. The city is hotter than ever right now. Experimentation with fashion as well as contemporary design is visually remarkable. Some of her impressive work includes the furniture she creates out of leather. She augments luxury fabrics into divine 3-D patterns. Murray is making a name for herself in the textile design field. Her work is commissioned for interiors as well as wall coverings. You can see her work in this months Wallpaper Magazine. The Art Deco Tub Chair has a two headed bird carved into the back is unbelievable.

Hot Hues

Alexander McQueen's runway shows are filled with fantastical elements of theater. For his Fall 2007 show the looks were inspired by McQueen's latest obsession with paganism. The models were transformed into modern day Cleopatra's with intense eye hues, heavily lined eyes, severely defined brows, and luminous copper tinted skin. The M.A.C team worked with McQueen to make his vision come to life. This month at counters across the globe the collection of makeup will be available for a limited time. The shadows include Nile, a bold deep blue, Pagan, a rich light green, and Haunting, a shimmery peacock teal hue. There will also be a Mineralize Skin Finish to complete the look. Have fun with this one!

The Just B Boutique Steps Out

So we went out to the show to snap up some stunnas. It took some time to find inventive ensembles, but when we did it was no wonder that most of them came from local boutique, Just B. The guys were mostly rockin Coogie tees, hoodies, and denim. From the clothes to the swagger, the following pictures were the choice cuts.

This is the Hippodrome. Yes, that's right, you are looking at it.

Just B owner Bianca Jackson stuns us in a belted trench, bright orange bag, and matching Dolce and Gabbana embellished boots. She detailed with a thick gold rope chain and a gold Cavalli watch. Best in show.

Little mama's doin thier thing. The girl on the left rocks her embellished Dereon's! Git 'em!

Stunna shades! Fitted in Just B top to bottom.

Jackie, left, is wearing a Just B dress and adds a black feather clutch nailing the trend just right.

She was tight. Rockstar tatted on her tummy. Reminded us of Tupac's "Thug Life." Had to snap her up.

This dude had a Coogi hoodie with the matching Mexican denim. His attention to detail was in his mouth, a gold grill. Hot.

Instructions on building a fly outfit. Tight denim, a textured leather jacket, suede black booties, and finish the look with some big hair. Yes. Her eyes were piercing, this girl killed it.

Tight black Ecko Red tube dress with high top Nikes. Ecko fits the hood.

Just B and Rife's own, Doll Cintron shows up right in a vintage Adidas hoodie, black leggings, and cheetah wedges.

For the ladies, Just B is located at 878 Sumner Avenue in Springfield, MA. Expressions is where the guys can cop thier fresh gear. There are five locations throughout the city. Not bad for the guy from Rhode Island.

Fifty in Springfield? Aw Damn.

Ok kids, I find it crazy that the day Fifty's album drops, he comes to Springfield, Massachusetts. The last time homeboy hit up da field he caught a case. He claimed he was never coming back after he was hit with bottles. The man jumped into the crowd, his belt hit some chick and she sued. He returns tonight to his impending doom of gang violence. SPRINGFIELD IS SO HOOD! Y'all better act right because I'm coming down tonight to take pictures! We are taking bets on who we think will be in the house tonight. So far I heard Kanye or Justin. The music industry is diving right now and these artists need to work together to promote albums and tours. Oh, and Ludacris who the hell do you think you are backing out the performance you were supposed to do at the Big E? Poor ticket sales? Poor character.

Show is at the Hippodrome on Main Street in Springfield, MA. Starts at 8.

The Go Team with Matt and Kim Friday October 26th at 8pm tix are $12. Come watch Kim kill it on the drums. Yeah Yeah.

The Gossip on November 15th at 7:30pm the tix are $12. The Gossip is the first band that legendary producer Rick Rubin signed to Columbia Records since he has been chosen to take the label in a new direction. The energy that this band brings to the stage is so gripping that their first album release will be a collection of live performances on DVD.

Thanks to R5 Productions for bringing authentic NEW music to Philadelphia. Going out and listening to the same songs I jammed to at Interskate 91 back in the day is tiresome. It's just not as fun when you can't make up dance routines with your friends in roller skates.

Philly is Throwin Down Like Wha?

At Rife we try to get in where we fit in. We try to hit the scene here and there but this weekend in Philadelphia is shapin up to be pretty good with some events you should try to catch. THEN there is White Tees White Belts doin thier monthly at the Arts Garage on 15th and Parrish with a $10 cover with an OPEN BAR. No really, did someone say open bar? SOLD. Hey if you can get all that in power to ya. Hopefully you're not working in the morning. I hear Beau Monde has the best bloody mary's. Just throwing it out there. Saturday night should be the ill banger with Aesop Rock comin to town to promote the new None Shall Pass Album along with label mates Blockhead and Cage. Live painting at the show with John Roebas, Rob G, and John F. John F. by the way is having an apparel launch on the 15th at the Raven Lounge. More on that later. Now you kids do ya homework on where these parties are goin down, and we'll see you on the flip. Ladies, get fitted.

Man With a Plan

Alexander Wang is confident. Instead of working on any loose ends before his runway show the 23 year old designer decided to get the party started early. Why not? His collection was complete a month ago. He chartered a bus complete with a stripper pole to travel around the city to all the hottest spots picking up friends along the way. Say word. The kid who attended Parsons like many of his colleagues left early to pursue his own collection. His internships include working and learning from fashion power players Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, and the illustrious Vogue. His collections get more impressive each season. He brings a fresh complex approach to knitwear by offering a variety of textures and colors. You can cop his pieces at department stores and check out his collections here.
Some highlights from the Alexander Wang Spring 2008 show.

L.A.M.B Spring 2008

Gwen Stefani and crew were in the Bryant Park tents on Wednesday night to showcase the Spring 2008 L.A.M.B collection. The woman is one of the hardest working females in the game. Since the debut of her high fashion line two years ago Stefani has released a new album, embarked on a global tour, released a luxe line of handbags, and as if late launched a new fragrance complete with a stunning ad campaign. All the while she is raising a little boy. Big ups to the lady! Anyhow. The latest L.A.M.B collection is complete with wearable pieces that look sophisticated in cut and on point when it comes to trend. Highlights included high waisted skirts detailed with ruffles along the silhouette paired with wide belts, tailored jackets, and accessories.
