Paradiso

The Pirelli tire company releases a coveted calendar every year for an exclusive list of clients and VIPS. The calendar started in 1963 and has an illustrious history of using top models and photographers to create some of the worlds most desirable images. Notable photographers include Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, and Peter Lindbergh. The list of some of the iconic women include Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, and Iman among many others. The images themselves have generated enough publicity within their exclusive circles throughout the years to make this a cult item people need to have their hands on. A 40 year retrospective book was released to commemorate the images that show flirtations with sensual fantasy and beauty executed through the lenses of the some of the worlds most dynamic photographers. Images are from 1963-2004. I know quite a few people with birthdays in April and May, HMMM...I'm thinkin' this is a good gift...Enjoy. Available here

SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY

This is a really good video from VIMBY spotlighting some of Philadelphia's up and coming talent. It's becoming more evident in marketing that encompassing diversity within your brand is crucial to success. The exchanges between fashion, music, art, sports, and culture are triggering exciting talent with a common philosophy to come together creatively. It's occurring at all levels of the industry. The Takashi Murakami retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum recently is a prime example. That night saw an intense performance from Kanye West, an artist with not only an inimitable musical gift, but you have to give it to him, the boy has style. Past Murakami collaborator and top American fashion designer, Marc Jacobs was there to show support. In front of the museum, stands of fake Louis Vuitton bags proved to be a teaser to the Louis Vuitton shop that was set up inside. Ah, art, commerce, and globalization, the world is yours friends.

Back Home

So, I arrived in Philly last night at around 1 a.m from New York. Finally! It was a busy week traveling. I joined my girl Gill at the Girl on Girl party at Sway the night before in Manhattan. It was fun. I mean, we didn't get there til 2 a.m, but we made the best of it. Makers Mark on the rocks for me. Oi, Oi, Tone took our picture, a couple times, ugh. I HATE GETTING MY PICTURE TAKEN! Everytime. DAMN! But back to Philly, my home for the moment, that I love so much. I hit the streets hard today. I obviously stopped at Omoi to show Lizzy Liz Liz my new haircut. Yes, I chopped it. Severely. I stopped at Grasshopper, ladies, you really need to go in there for some AMAZING dresses and tops. As well as vintage deadstock Christian Dior shades. They do carry menswear, but I suggest stopping at Omoi first. Just sayin. Grasshopper is right next to American Mortals. Ask for Brooke. She's great. It is also a couple doors down from Lolli Lolli, a fabulous children's boutique. I also stopped in the Matthew Izzo store on Walnut. I was fuckin STOKED to see that they carry Surface to Air from Paris. Thank you!!! Forward fashions! I think I just get happy when people 'get it.' Also, Head Area, the salon in the back, my girl Ruth works there. Ask for her. Does a perfect blow out. I did stop in Urban. Please, take it from me, don't waste your time. Unless you are a super hippie and don't mind paying for overpriced Shwag. They do have good books though. Liz has better ones...

Enough retail! Now time for the bars. I HAD to stop at Bob and Barbs to see Butchie. He opens the bar and ALWAYS has the best shit on the jukebox. Jazz, Soul, R&B, etc. Don't fuck with him. He also provided the best comment of the week:

"I don't know who your baby's father is, but y'all had some good rhythm!"- Butchie after looking at a recent picture of Lola. God Bless him

P.S Butchie swears he is Lola's daddy... hahaha! I am a proud mami.

Finally, we ended the night with rockabilly bands at the Tritone. I fell in love with Rockabilly tonight...

Feet First

I wore these on the day of the Bridge Art Fair in New York last Thursday. I had been traveling the entire week and I couldn't fit these in my luggage so I had to wear them. Not that I'm complaining! Love 'em. In fact, my most comfortable pair of shoes. However, they have taken on a life of thier own. Everytime I have them on in New York people stop me to take pictures of them. Most notably at the DQM store. Even here in Philly, BadLuxury.Blogspot.com spotted me at the Jinxed Heart show. Back to the point, this dapper lookin fellow snapped my boots at the fair and told me the blog he wrote for, Increase-Decrease.com. Just today I finally checked it and his blog is pretty dope. Shout to Reynolds.
