Vintage Black and Whites
While searching for style inspiration photos for my sister's upcoming show, I came across this incredible blog, Child of the Moon. It offers loads of style photos and the women that inspired thier decade. If I could go back to any era, hands down it would be the late sixties early seventies with some super short mod haircut and lashes for days. Here I have famed muse, Edie Sedgwick, fashion icons Diana Vreeland with Veruschka, Catherine James, Anna Wholin, some mod fashions, women in topless bathing suits, and Monica Vitti smoking. This is just a snapshot of the website. Be sure to check it out.

The Original Hi Yella Gal
Let's just take a moment to remember Dorothy Dandrige. She played in over 20 films and including Carmen Jones, Lady from Louisiana, Tarzan's Peril. Carmen Jones gross 60k it's first week in 1954. She died at 42 from OD'ing on pills, but will always be remembered for her breakthrough rolls and contributions to the Black Community.

Explicit Ills
North Philly Native Mark Webber is bringing it back home...
"EXPLICIT ILLS is actor turned helmer, Mark Webber's directorial debut. The film follows four inter-connecting stories revolving around love, drugs and poverty in Philadelphia. Babo, an asthma ridden seven-year-old lives with his mother in the badlands of North Philly. His neighbor Demetri transforms himself into a well-read "smart" boy in order to get the girl. Michelle, a well-off art student is quick to fall into a drug induced love-affair with her dealer Jacob. Kaleef and Jill's marriage is strained as they pursue their dreams of bringing "produce to the people" as their teenage son Heslin focuses on competing in the World's Strongest Man competition. The lyrical and moving drama finds its core as all members come together in their fight for justice and self-discovery."

Michael Dupouy from La MJC
Check out this video wth Michael Dupouy from La MJC. La MJC is an event, communications, and consultling agency that is focused on urban culture addicts. Recently, the company did a collaboration with New Balance for a sneaker exclusively released at Colette. In the video he talks about the current state of affairs along the lines of international street culture, from Kaws to Supreme, Solebox and Kanye. Photo courtesy of The Selby.

Lucite Handbag
I've always been one for sleek black look, but the pink is darling, no? Which do you prefer? I love all the custom fitted compartments.

John Galliano via Paris
I mean, are these not to die for? or rather, die in? These heels are so towering I can't imagine walking too long in them, but they are nonetheless stunning!
I can still recall the very first high fashion dress I saw that triggered my love affair with high fashion. The Absinthe green dress was done by John Galliano for Christian Dior. Nicole Kidman wore it and walked the Academy Awards red carpet in 1997.
It was an asian inspired statement dress with fur detailing along the side slit. John Galliano has a romantic and sophisticated edge touch to his work, he's Spanish, c'mon. What was the first piece you saw that changed your world?

Vote Omoi in Nooka Nooka!
Omoi is competing in a contest for Nooka watches! The stores that were involved each submitted a vinyl toy and Omoi is representing Philadelphia with their Garbage Pail Kids style Sumo wrestler! Ya see, the toy was designed and painted by artist Mark Pingitore, who is a concept artist at Topps, Inc. (hence the GPK connection). The detail is amazing, from the bun in his hair to the movement on his face and body.
You can vote HERE!
You can pick one or three faves after which you enter your email address. You may vote only once per email address, so perhaps you could give a second vote with a work email?
